When we learnt that worldwide 70% of women entrepreneurs don’t have access to financial services and that there is a $300 billion financing gap for women entrepreneurs according to the International Finance Corporation. We knew that we had to do something to tackle this problem.
That’s why we decided to start KPesa, a Social Innovation lending crowdfunding platform to help women entrepreneurs raise finance to grow their businesses. Research shows us that when we invest in women, we invest in the whole community because women spend a higher percentage of their income on their family and community.
Our team not only has a diverse experience in community building, accounting and finance, digital marketing and design. But we also bring together cultural diversity that will enable us to enter three global markets Tanzania, Nigeria and Brazil.
